Pseudorapidity density of charged particles in p-Pb collisions at sqrt(s) = 5.02 TeV

The first measurement of the charged-particle pseudorapidity density in non-single diffractive
\pPb\ collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair \snn = 5.02 TeV is presented.
The average value of the charged-particle pseudorapidity density at mid-rapidity is
measured to be 17.44 $\pm$ 0.52 \syst, which corresponds
to 2.18 $\pm$ 0.17~\syst\ per participating nucleons.
This is a factor 1.25 lower than in \pp\ collisions at the same collision energy,
and a factor 2 higher than in \dAu\ collisions at \snn=0.2~TeV.
The measured pseudorapidity density in \pPb\ is compared to the model predictions.
