Abstract Plain Text:

The elliptic flow ($v_2$) of prompt $\Dzero$, $\Dplus$, $\Dstar$ and $\Ds$ mesons was measured in semi-peripheral (30--50\%) Pb--Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrtsNN = 5.02$ TeV, with the ALICE detector at the LHC. D mesons were reconstructed via their hadronic decays at $|y|<0.8$ in the transverse momentum interval $1<\pt<24$ GeV/c. The measured D-meson $v_2$ is compatible with the one observed in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrtsNN = 2.76$ TeV and it is comparable in magnitude to that of charged pions. The $\Ds$ $v_2$ was measured for the first time albeit with large uncertainties and it is found to be compatible with that of non-strange D mesons. The measurements are compared to theoretical calculations of charm-quark transport in a hydrodynamically expanding medium.
