Alice events from first LHC Ion Beams

During the last weekend of September 2009, Alice was getting its first serving of heavy ions during an LHC injection test. The lead bunches were accelerated in the SPS, transported by the transfer line TI2 to the entrance of LHC and then dumped on the TED absorber, about 300 m upstream of Alice. The pictures show an event display of a single splash where one can see hits in all the detectors participating in the run (because of the very high particle density in these events, only a subset of detectors were switched on).
