First collisions of lead ions on 08.11.2010

Events recorded by the ALICE experiment from the first lead ion collisions, at a centre-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair.

These are online reconstructed events from the High Level Trigger, showing tracks from the Inner Tracking System and the Time Projection Chamber of ALICE.

As expected such collisions produce an unprecedented number of particles, reaching thousands per collision.

The following pictures show, in addition to the tracks, the deposition of energy in the electromagnetic calorimeters of ALICE.
