TI2 extraction test to TED, July 11th-13th, 2009

LHC-ALICE accelerator complex

According the TIMBER database we saw 2090 bunches from Saturday 9am till Sunday
and 315 12-bunch trains between Sunday 10pm and Monday 6am.

  • Saturday:

    • 0:00-8:45 we had a long cosmic run with SPD,SDD, V0, T0, MuTr, FMD, ZDC, HMPID in the global partition to stress the DAQ. No problems observed. Raw data registration into AliEn and the Shuttle registration into OCDB worked as well.
    • 9:00-16:00 first injection, clc synchronized: We brought up SPD, SDD, T0, MuTr, FMD, ZDC and later V0.
      • SPD: We saw about 200 SPD clusters/bunch.
      • FMD: concluded to see about 0.7 particles/cm2 for bunch intensities 0.4e10 (enclosed event display snapshot)
      • CTP: we did the first analysis of L0 trigger arrival times from SPD,V0,T0,Mutr,ZDC.
    • 16:00-24:00: injection continues in asynchronous mode later back to synchro. We could clearly see a ZDC L0 phase stability when the beam was synchronous.
      • SPD: Several runs were taken to scan the delay/strobe length settings.
      • ZDC: checked the L0 timing

    • Sunday:
      • 24:00-3:00 continue taking data with SPD trigger and SPD, SDD, FMD, T0, ZDC, MUTRIG - SPD, FMD, T0, ZDC
      • 3:00-24:00 CTP realignment wrt MuTr- T0 delay set to 5 BC, V0 and SPD to 3 BC.
      • 22:00 switch to 12 bunches, 25 x 10^9 particles per buch (i.e. almost 100 times increas in intensity) - muon trigger chambers switched off
        • ZDC sees clearly the spill structure (see attached)
        • SPD: see 80,000 hits (was ca 1000)
        • FMD: hit density estimated too high (>500% occupancy) decides NOT to take any calibration data
      • 24:00 decide to stop data taking (trigger timing is confused with the multi-bunches, FMD will not take data) -  SPD  continues in standalone to make some delay scans.
