TI2 injection test, beam through ALICE, November 7th, 2009 - beam 1 and beam 2

Preliminary plan for Friday November 6th-Sunday November 8th

LHC-ALICE accelerator complex

Dumps on TED and beam through ALICE during the evening and night. Beam injection test finished around 13:00.

At 16:04 ALICE was ready for injection. Dumps on TED started shortly afterwards. Run 96473 with ACORDE, PMD, SDD, SPD, V0, ZDC triggered by V0 was started. Around 18:00 a new run (96478) with a separate partition containing EMCAL, FMD, and PHOS was started with the same trigger. The dumps on TED ended 21:15. Some dumps on TDI with ALICE in safe mode followed.  The rest of the night there was beam through ALICE. Some unannounced incidents occured during the night, however. At 4:30 very high multiplicity (400,000) was observed in SPD. At 5:00 there was again high multiplicity. Finally, at 6:45 multiplicity 400,000 was again observed in SPD. This shut off the V0 and it was decided to stop the run. CCC later acknowledged that they had been moving the screens without letting us know during the time of some of these incidents.  The ramping of the muon dipole for the compensator test started around 8:00. The test was finished around 10:30. At 11:00 ALICE was put in safe mode before the TDI scan. Some of the TDI dumps were very strong, however, causing the TPC field cage to trip. The TDI scan finished 13:00. The solenoid was then ramped up and cosmic data taking started with 0.2 T field.

Buch intensities delivered beam and Recorded Events : About 1100 bunches delivered and ALICE recorded about 650 events. We did not take data e.g. during the TID scan (see BLM below)
