Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Relativistic Heavy Ion Physics

Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Relativistic Heavy Ion Physics

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position with the Wayne State Experimental Relativistic Heavy Ion Physics group. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in high energy particle or nuclear physics and have a strong background in the data analysis of large experiments.

The successful candidate will conduct research with the ALICE experiment and carry out studies of jet production and/or multi-particle correlation analysis in heavy ion collisions.

Applications:

Applications including a CV, list of publications, and at least three recommendation letters should be sent to:

Professor Claude A. Pruneau

Department of Physics and Astronomy

Wayne State University

Detroit, Michigan 48201

or electronically to claude.pruneau@wayne.edu.

The deadline for applications is September 1, 2012. Later applications will be considered until the position is filled. Informal inquiries are welcomed and should be sent to  claude.pruneau@wayne.edu or joern.putschke@wayne.edu.   The Physics and Astronomy Department at Wayne State University provides a dynamic and robust environment for research in high energy nuclear physics. The Wayne State Heavy Ion group is comprised of four experimentalists and two theoreticians, four post-doctoral researchers, and several graduate students. There are also strong experimental and theory groups involved in high energy particle physics.

CERN car sharing scheme now open to everyone

The CERN car sharing service is a self-service scheme providing a pool of 30 CERN cars available for pick-up free of charge from 13 points around the Meyrin and Prévessin sites. From Thursday, 1st December 2011, the service will be open to all members of the CERN personnel and contractors' personnel, in the framework of their professional activities at CERN only. The conditions of use can be consulted at:

http://gs-dep.web.cern.ch/en/content/Mobility/Car_sharing

To be able to use the service, members of the CERN personnel and contractors' personnel must:

  • have a contractual link to CERN,
  • possess an e-mail address registered in the CERN databases;
  • hold an RFID access card, which can be obtained from the CERN Car Pool on presentation of a valid CERN access card. Car Pool, Building 130-R-012, open Monday-Friday, 8.00 a.m.-12.00 noon/1.00 p.m.-5.00 p.m.

Changes to the shuttle circuits

To fit with passengers expectation, there will be some changes to the shuttle circuits as from Monday 10 October. See details on http://cern.ch/ShuttleService (on line on 7 October).

Circuit No. 5 is cancelled as circuit No. 1 also stops at Bldg. 33.

In order to guarantee shorter travel times, circuit No. 1 will circulate on Meyrin site only and circuit No. 2, with departures from Bldg. 33 and 500, on Prévessin site only.
